MULTICONFESSIONAL BELGRADE

UNITY OF DIVERSITY

Belgrade is a city of intertwining cultures, peoples and religions. From the ancient pagan fortification, the place of dispute between the Eastern and Western Christian churches and the Islamic city, the fate of Belgrade is tied to all the peoples who inhabited it. The symbols of their faiths changed, and the material traces remained reminiscent of the turbulent history of the destruction, preservation and protection of that heritage. Belgrade is the seat of almost all religious communities that exist in Serbia today: Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, Islamic and Jewish religious communities.

CHRISTIANITY IN BELGRADE

The Christian religion has left a deep mark in the cultural and historical heritage of Belgrade. Today, the heritage of the Orthodox, Catholic and, to a lesser extent, the Protestant Church is preserved in it.

ISLAM IN BELGRADE

The ethnically diverse Islamic community of Serbia and Belgrade was mainly formed by a long process of Islamization of the local Slavic population and the immigration of Turks and other Muslims from the east.

JUDAISM IN BELGRADE

According to the data, four synagogues have been built in Belgrade throughout history. To this day, only the Sukat Shalom Synagogue has survived.
