At the site of this baroque gate, there used to be another gate that had been built in the 15th century during the reign of the Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarevi\u0107. The original gate, which was also called the Eastern Lower Town Gate, was erected at that place in order to defend the Lower Town and was the main entrance to this part of the fortress. With the arrival of the Austrian authorities in the 18th century, the reconstruction of the entire city began, and thus the reconstruction of the fortress as well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-6526-1-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-6526-1-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"3\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-6526-1-1-0\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<figure id=\"attachment_7717\" style=\"width: 2560px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG_9265-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7717 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/IMG_9265-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"kapija-karla-VI\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kapija Karla VI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-6526-2\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-6526-2-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-6526-2-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>This part of the fortress was also reconstructed, and a new gate was built - the Gate of Carlo VI. Accompanying buildings were built around the gate during the same time period, but they were not preserved.  During WWI, almost all of the gates and the remains of the fortress walls were destroyed, but this gate  remained.<br \/>\nDuring the German occupation in WWII, large works were carried out in the Lower Town with the aim of erecting a memorial park dedicated to Prince Eugene of Savoy (historical sources previously thought that the Gate of Emperor Carlo VI was actually dedicated to Prince Eugene). During the allied bombing in 1944, a bomb fell right next to the gate and significantly damaged it. The half-ruined gate stood for the next 20 years until research work began in 1964. The restoration of the gate began in 1973.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-6526-3\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-6526-3-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-6526-3-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"5\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>Above the arch of the gate is the monogram of Charles VI, accompanied by a coat of arms depicting a boar's head pierced by an arrow and crowned with an imperial crown. This emblem symbolically represents the dominance of the Habsburg Monarchy over the region.
