class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"412\">After a competition was announced in 1976, construction of the block began in 1978 and was fully completed in 1981. The urban plan for the block was developed by architects Vesna Mati\u010devi\u0107 and Dragoljub Manojlovi\u0107. The building designs were created by architects Milan Lojanica, Borivoje Jovanovi\u0107, Predrag Cagi\u0107, Radisav Mari\u0107, and Radmila Lojanica.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"601\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">They had to ensure that the block, compressed between the highway and the railway and located just 500 meters from the Sava River, would become an attractive and comfortable living space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28327\" src=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1147\" height=\"1302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279.jpg 1147w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279-264x300.jpg 264w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279-902x1024.jpg 902w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279-768x872.jpg 768w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0279-44x50.jpg 44w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1147px) 100vw, 1147px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"304\">Eight residential buildings were constructed, housing approximately 3,500 residents. According to the plan, an elementary school, a kindergarten, a local community center, and a garage were to be built, but these projects were never realized.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"306\" data-end=\"456\">The local community to which the block belonged was called Neretva, and Local Community Day was celebrated on March 6, marking its founding in 1982.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"634\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">During the 1990s and 2000s, residential and commercial buildings were constructed in the southern part of the block, and one of the buildings now houses the Australian Embassy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_0287-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone grad\u201d became involved in protecting this block and, in 2011, developed a spatial concept for the development of part of the green area within the block, called the \u201cEco Oasis of Block 19a.\u201d If adopted, the plan would provide landscaped park areas and greenery in the open space between Vladimira Popovi\u0107a and Milentija Popovi\u0107a Streets.<br \/>\n<a designed in a postmodern style, which started to replace brutalism and modernism in the mid-1970s. Its buildings are characterized by sloped roofs, the use of traditional construction materials, and decorative fa\u00e7ades.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"312\" data-end=\"780\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Block 19a occupies an irregularly shaped plot, shaped by the surrounding streets. The buildings are set diagonally to optimize sunlight, ventilation, and minimize traffic noise. A key feature of the block is the separation of pedestrian and vehicle traffic, with building entrances elevated above street level.
