This carefully preserved space houses his workroom, which was relocated from 33 Svetosavska Street, where Slavenski lived and composed until his passing in 1955. The vibrant spirit of the Balkans is reflected not only in his music but also in the d\u00e9cor of the space: hand-painted Pirot rugs, Bosnian tables from Konjic, rustic wooden chairs from Montenegro, and a fascinating array of traditional folk instruments.<\/p>\n<p>The extensive library is a true treasure trove, boasting 3,360 items. Among these are 1,271 musical compositions, 822 books, hundreds of vinyl records, magnetic tapes, and over a thousand letters. The collection is far from limited to music\u2014it spans a wide range of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and linguistics. Biographies of famous composers fill the shelves, alongside a rare collection of dictionaries, which reveal that Slavenski corresponded with friends in an impressive eleven different languages.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of this remarkable space is a concert hall with seating for around seventy people, offering a unique and intimate venue for performances, a perfect homage to Slavenski\u2019s legacy and his passion for the blending of diverse cultural influences.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24299\" style=\"width: 2560px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a Slavenski Legacy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In recognition of his contributions to music, the music school affiliated with the Academy of Music in Belgrade was named <em>Josip Slavenski Music School<\/em> (M\u0160 Josip Slavenski).<\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive biography of Josip Slavenski, titled simply <em>JOSIP<\/em>, was authored by his wife, Milana Slavenski, offering a personal and detailed account of the composer\u2019s life and legacy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-24269-0-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-24269-0-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-image-grid panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-image-grid class=\"widget-title\">PERSONAL STORY<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>Josip \u0160tolcer Slavenski was born on May 11, 1896, in \u010cakovec (modern-day Croatia), as the eldest child of village musician Josip \u0160tolcer and Julija Novak. Although he initially completed a baker's apprenticeship, in 1913 he began attending music academies in Budapest and later in Prague, where he honed his musical education and developed his unique style, deeply rooted in the folk traditions of the Balkans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24294\" style=\"width: 1707px\"  class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24294 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1707\" height=\"2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-scaled.jpg 1707w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/beotura.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_1617-33x50.jpg 33w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1707px) 100vw, 1707px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The guitar and Pirot rugs are integral parts of the permanent exhibition at the Slavenski Legacy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After returning to \u010cakovec following World War I, he increasingly began signing his name as \"Slavenski,\" influenced by the ideas of pan-Slavism and \"Balkanophilia.\" This surname was officially legalized in 1930.<\/p>\n<p>From 1924 onwards, he lived between Paris and Belgrade, where he began teaching at the Music School (now known as \u201cMokranjac\u201d) and at the Second Men's Gymnasium. From 1945, he worked as an associate professor, and from 1949 as a full professor at the Academy of Music in Belgrade. He passed away on November 30, 1955, in Belgrade.<\/p>\n<p>We organized our visit to the Slavenski Legacy together with the students of the <em>Josip Slavenski Music School<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure
